Fundamental Differences Between Nylon and Polyurethane
First of all, we need to understand the fundamental difference between these two materials.
Polyurethane Casters: Quiet and High-Friction
Simply put, polyurethane is an elastic material that is softer, so it is less noisy and has more friction. This means that polyurethane casters are quieter in operation, but may not be as wear-resistant as nylon casters.
Nylon Casters: Durable and High Load Capacity
And nylon is a harder material, which has very good abrasion resistance. So if you need a caster with high load capacity and wear resistance, nylon casters may be more suitable for you!
Chemical Structure and Performance Differences
So why are these two materials so different? Actually, it all stems from their own chemical structure and properties. Polyurethane is made by polymerizing isocyanate with hydroxyl compounds, and it has good oil resistance, toughness, abrasion resistance, aging resistance and adhesion. Nylon, on the other hand, has high heat resistance, fatigue resistance and abrasion resistance, as well as excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
